I checked other feeds quickly. All crew in quarters. No emergency alerts. Nothing obviously wrong. But Camera Seven was flickering. Steady pattern now—static for exactly 2.3 seconds, then clear for 4.7 seconds. During the clear moments, I could see into the corridor. It wasn't empty anymore. The figure stood at the far end, near the central junction. Motionless. Watching. The briefing carried a different energy today. Tony arrived late, coveralls cleaner than usual, tool belt silent. His normal swagger was muted, replaced by something more careful. ‘Morning, Commander.’ No ‘Boss Lady’ today. The shift in address felt deliberate. Thames followed precisely on schedule, med kit positioned exactly as always, but his eyes lingered on my face longer than necessary. Professional assessment, cataloguing signs of strain I was probably failing to hide. ‘How are you feeling today, Commander?’ Too casual. Too concerned...
